WHAT IS
KORFBALL?
Korfball is
the only team sport played by women with men.Although it is similar to netball
and basketball games,it is separated from them.This game can be played both men
and women of all ages.Korfball can be played indoor area in addition it can be
played on the grass,sand or water.
FIELD
AND EQUIPMENT
Field size is 40x20 meters indoors.
Field size is 60x30 meters in range. Field is divided evenly into two areas. Each
team has a basket of 3.5 meters in length. Used a similar ball to soccer ball.
HISTORY OF KORFBALL
The inventor of korfball is Nico
Broekhuysen.He is a Dutch and teacher.Nico Broekhuysen has designed the
korfball game in Amsterdam in 1903.Netherlands Korfball Association was founded
in 1903.Also,International Korfball Federation was founded in 1933.The
development of korfball sport has been in recent years.In 1970, there were four
members of the International Korfball Federation in Europe.Korfball began to be
played in more than 30 countries on 4 continents in 1992.IKF is accredited by
IOC( International Olympic Committee) in 1993.Korfball, began to operate in
Turkey in 1995.Korfball has begun to spread rapidly, especially among
university.Korfball is located as part of a World Games held every four years.
RULES
OF GAMES
A
team consists of four men and four women players.Just do not play with a team
composed of women or from men.Players have the opportunity to shoot from 360
degrees.The game continues behind the basket.Players must play collective.The
players can not run with ball.Each player has a specific opponent.Players must
follow to opponent as a shadow.Shooting is not done during the defence but
defenders should be closer to the basket from the offensive player.Physical
contact is not allowed in this game.
